The Fellowship Program at the French Institutes of Advanced Study (FIAS) now offers 10-month fellowships in Aix-Marseille, Loire Valley, Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, and Paris. This fellowship is completely self-funded.

The FIAS Fellowship Program is dedicated to guaranteeing equal opportunity and increasing diversity in its academic community. It invites applications from internationally renowned researchers and scientists, mainly in the social sciences and humanities (SSH).

The competition is accessible to all SSH disciplines and research subjects. Other science-related research initiatives having a transversal discourse with SSH are also acceptable. The Fellows will benefit from the IAS’s support and supportive scientific environment, which is distinguished by an interdisciplinary cohort of fellows and a tight connection to local research potential. The fellows will have complete autonomy over how they arrange their work and conduct research.

Criteria for Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Program

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and two years of full-time research experience following graduation. Scholars having a Master’s degree plus six years of full-time research experience following graduation will be considered (Ph.D. training will not be included in the assessment of experience).

Incoming researchers must not have resided or carried out their principal activity (job, studies, etc.) in France for more than 12 months in the three years immediately preceding the call deadline, according to the transnational MSCA mobility regulation.

Through the online application platform, applicants must complete all application forms and submit all needed documentation. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Applications that do not meet the maximum length criteria will be rejected. Applications submitted in languages other than English (even if just partially) will be rejected.

Procedures for submitting an application

How to Apply: Applicants must complete the FIAS online application form to be considered for the French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Program.

 

Requirements for the document:

  • A comprehensive curriculum vitae that includes a list of publications
  • A Latin script university certificate or official translation is required if the writing system/script used in the diploma is not Latin (but, for example, Cyrillic, Chinese, Arabic, or another).
  • A thorough research proposal (maximum 5 pages plus 1 page of bibliography)
  • Three to five publications are chosen (articles or book chapters)
  • Letters of recommendation (up to two) (optional)
  • A letter of support/interest from a local scientific partner for an IAS (only sought and required for Le Studium (Loire Valley IAS), Collegium de Lyon, MAK’IT (Montpelier IAS), and Paris IAS).
